KDE promotion progress

Tagged:

Yesterday I finally upgraded the live SpreadKDE web site to Drupal 4.7, giving us a few visible new features but mostly a solid basis for future expansion. I've implemented a space for sharing resources, which is semi-hidden at the moment, awaiting contributions and more testing from kde-promo volunteers before it's made fully public. We'll finally have one central place to go for everything from press release templates to leaflets and business cards!

Speaking of business cards, my compadres in the Marketing Team have done an amazing job and are close to having a very slick system for KDE contributors. You'll just have to email some details to the team and you'll get a set of around 500 professionally designed cards in the post! Look out for an official announcement soon. In the meantime Barbara and I are working on a lovely events management solution, and task management plus a flash new Oxygen style aren't too far over the horizon.

I'm also glad to see some momentum remaining on the kde-promo mailing list, where promotion of the KDE 3.5.3 release is being planned well in advance along with the usual random jobs and ideas. There are plenty of interesting ways to contribute if you're a glutton for glory!

It's a big shame that the activity levels have dropped to zero on the free desktop promotion list, which I was extremely happy to welcome not that long ago. The only fruitful discussion concluded that we just don't have the resources to tackle market research properly, even though it needs to be done and done together. Humph. Maybe that will pick up in time with various changes likely to occur in KDE, cross-desktop collaboration and free desktop investment over the next year or so.
