Remix Reading launch night recordings online at last

Finally! After nine months we've managed to get the recordings from the second room of our launch night online. My personal favourites are Ade's great remix of all the night's materials called '6021' (from 60 to 1 reduction in content), closely followed by A.F. Harold's 37 ways to leave your Yak. I forgot how crazy that night was, but the music and poetry really brings it all back!
It took so long because we've had an arse of a time fixing bugs and implementing new necessary features in our code base, all whilst trying to keep up to date with an ever-extending Drupal development schedule. Only a few weeks before a beta release they go and change their entire forms API - yeesh! At least they now have a beta release out so it should be reasonably stable in terms of changes to the core. I really have to hand it to Ber Kessels for his patience and hard work on the site, and to Lawrence Lessig for donating some money to get the last bit of work done.
I'm also so happy that I have KDE to do the work in. Opening files automagically from my text editor using the fish:// KIOslave (for SSH&SCP) is extremely useful, making it much easier to get stuck into the actual coding.
We now have our nice, shiny Remix Commons web site for the national network and a reworked, localised Remix Reading web site for local stuff. Next on the list of never-ending free culture jobs are: (i) run a design competition for Remix Commons; (ii) finish the planning and start running the fortnightly open access free software labs in the rising sun arts centre in Reading town centre; (iii) find more ways to get local geeks, artists and activists involved in the project.
Anyway, I'm off to work out what I can cook with some leftover cabbage, sprouts, mushrooms, a carrot, lots of pasta, cheese, milk, chopped tomatoes, herbs and anything else I can scavenge in my cupboard. Hmmm. I love cooking this way - no idea of a proper meal, just clobber together bits of recipe and ingredients into something delicious!
